Privacy policy
Last updated: October 2, 2026
This policy explains what data Voces de Izquierda (the “app”) and this website handle, what it is used for, and what you can do about it. It also serves as the full privacy notice required by Mexico's Federal Law on the Protection of Personal Data Held by Private Parties.
In short
- You can use the app without giving your name or email.
- We don't sell your data or use it for advertising. The app has no ads and no analytics or tracking tools.
- We store what the app needs to work: who you follow, your settings, and details of your most recent connection.
- You can delete your account and its data from the app at any time.
Who is responsible
Damian Soto, who operates Voces de Izquierda, is responsible for handling your personal data. His address is Lagos del Sol, C.P. 21387, Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico. For any privacy matter, write to d2600.dev@gmail.com.
What data we handle
Your account
The first time you open the app we ask you to accept this policy and the terms of service. When you accept, an anonymous account is created, with no name or email. It is tied to a random identifier generated by the app itself; it is not an identifier of your phone or an advertising ID.
If you choose to save your account with Google or Apple, we receive from them your account identifier and your email address (with Apple this may be a private relay address Apple creates for you). We don't receive your password and we don't store your name or photo. With Apple we also store a credential that is used only to remove the link with Apple when you delete your account.
What you do in the app
- The creators you follow and since when.
- Your settings: text size, light or dark background, and whether you want notifications.
- The reports you send when a link doesn't work: the video or creator and the reason.
Connection data
Each time the app opens we store the details of that connection: the IP address, the approximate country and internet provider (derived from the IP), the technical details the app sends with each request (for example, its version and your phone's system version), and the date. We also store the date the account was created.
Only the most recent connection is kept, not a history. Country and provider are worked out on our own server: your IP is not sent to any outside service to look them up. Using this data, the system automatically flags connections that appear to come from programs rather than people.
In addition, like any server, ours writes the IP, date and request of each connection to technical logs, for both the app and this website. They are used for security and troubleshooting and are kept for a limited time.
YouTube subscriptions (optional)
If you signed in with Google and give us permission from the app, we check with YouTube whether you are subscribed to the channels of the creators in the directory. The permission is read-only and is requested separately from sign-in.
- We ask YouTube only about the channels in the directory. We don't read your history or your videos, and we don't change anything in your YouTube account.
- We store only the result (yes or no for each creator) and the date of the check.
- We don't store the permission or any Google credential: it is used in the moment and discarded.
- The result is deleted when you disconnect YouTube in Settings, when you remove the permission in your Google account, when you delete your account, or after 30 days without a new check.
This feature may not be available in every version of the app.
What we don't collect
We don't ask for or collect your precise location, your contacts, your photos, your microphone, or your phone's advertising ID.
Sensitive data
The app brings together creators with a political leaning. The list of creators you follow could suggest your political opinions, which Mexican law treats as sensitive data. We therefore ask for your consent before you start using the app and handle it with particular care: we store it only because you choose to follow each creator, and only to show you their latest posts and send you their notifications. We don't share it, we don't publish it, and we don't use it to classify you. You can use the app without linking it to your name or email.
If you are a creator listed in the directory
The directory shows public information about each creator: name, topic, a short description, a photo, and links to their public channels. If you are listed and want something corrected, or want to be removed, write to d2600.dev@gmail.com.
This website
This website doesn't use cookies or analytics or advertising tools, and it doesn't load resources from other companies. If you choose a language, your browser saves that preference on your own device.
What we use your data for
- Creating and maintaining your account, and keeping who you follow if you change phones.
- Showing you the latest from the people you follow and sending you their notifications.
- Remembering your settings.
- Telling you whether you are subscribed to each creator on YouTube, if you gave that permission.
- Reviewing links reported as broken.
- Protecting the service: detecting abuse, automated access and failures.
- Knowing, in aggregate, how many people use the app and from which countries.
- Meeting legal obligations.
We don't use your data for advertising, marketing or profiling. There are no secondary purposes.
Notifications
Notifications are delivered through Firebase Cloud Messaging, a Google service, and on iPhone also through Apple's notification service. When you follow a creator, your phone is registered with those services to receive that creator's notifications. We don't store your phone's notification identifier: Google and Apple manage it under their own policies.
You can stop notifications by unfollowing a creator or from your phone's notification settings.
Who it is shared with
We don't sell or rent your data. The only parties involved are:
- Our hosting provider, the company where the server runs, which stores the data on our behalf.
- Google, for Google sign-in, notification delivery and YouTube API Services.
- Apple, for Sign in with Apple and notification delivery on iPhone.
- Authorities, when a law or a valid order requires it.
Within Voces de Izquierda, only the people who run the service can see account data.
YouTube and Google
The app uses YouTube API Services to learn about creators' posts and, if you allow it, to check your subscriptions. Google's handling of your data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy.
In addition to deleting what is stored from within the app, you can revoke the app's access to your Google account at any time from the Google security settings page.
Links and images from other platforms
When you tap a video or a channel, that platform's official app or website opens (YouTube, TikTok, Twitch, Instagram, Spotify, Patreon or another), and from then on its own privacy policy applies. The links carry a tag showing that the visit comes from Voces de Izquierda; it contains no data about you.
Video thumbnails and creator photos load directly from the servers where they are hosted (for example, YouTube's), which therefore receive your phone's IP address.
How long we keep it
- Your account, the creators you follow, your settings and your most recent connection data: for as long as the account exists.
- The result of your YouTube subscriptions: at most 30 days from the last check.
- Link reports: kept as a review history; when you delete your account they are no longer linked to you.
- Technical server logs: for a limited time.
Your rights
You have the right to access your data, correct it, have it deleted, and object to its use. In Mexico these are known as ARCO rights. You can also withdraw your consent and ask us to limit the use or disclosure of your data.
You can do several of these things yourself in the app: unfollow a creator, disconnect YouTube, and delete your account.
For anything else, write to d2600.dev@gmail.com stating which right you want to exercise and the details that let us find your account, for example the email you saved it with. If you are acting on someone else's behalf, attach the document that proves it. We may ask you to confirm the account is yours. We will reply by the same means within the time limits set by law. Exercising these rights is free.
If you believe we did not handle your request properly, you can go to the Secretaría Anticorrupción y Buen Gobierno, Mexico's personal data protection authority. If you live in another country, that country's law may give you additional rights; we handle those through the same email.
How to delete your account
In the app, go to Ajustes (Settings) and tap “Borrar mi cuenta” (Delete my account). Deletion is immediate and permanent: it removes your account, the creators you followed, your settings, your connection data and anything stored from YouTube. If you signed in with Apple, the link with Apple is removed too.
If you saved your account with Google or Apple and no longer have the app, write to d2600.dev@gmail.com from that account's email and we will delete it.
If you use the app without having saved it with Google or Apple, delete the account from the app before uninstalling: afterwards we would have no way of knowing which account is yours.
Minors
The app is not aimed at children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you are a minor, use it with your parent's or guardian's permission. If you believe a minor gave us data without that permission, write to us and we will delete it.
Security
Connections are encrypted, the database is not reachable from the internet, and administrative access is restricted. No system is infallible: if an incident significantly affects your data, we will report it through the means available to us.
Where it is stored
Data is stored on our hosting provider's servers. Google and Apple may process the data they handle in other countries, under their own policies.
Changes to this policy
We will publish any change here and update the date at the top. If the change is significant, we will also announce it in the app or on this website.
Language
This is a translation of the Spanish version. If the two differ, the Spanish version prevails.
